| I got the nickname CalliSt0 from the Callisto in Greek Mythology. Callisto was a nymph who was associated with the goddess of the hunt, Artemis. Young women who were devoted to the goddess hunted with her, and remained virgins, like Artemis herself. Callisto caught the eye of Zeus who became obsessed with her and eventually raped her. Callisto became pregnant which made Hera angry and longing to seek revenge on Callisto. When Artemis found out Callisto was pregnant she banished her from the fold, leaving Callisto all alone. Hera caught Callisto and turned her into a bear who was later almost killed by a spear thrown by her own son. Zeus took pity on Callisto and placed her in the sky as the constellation Ursa Major. He also took her son, Arcas, and placed him beside her as Ursa Minor. Hera was still angry so she made it so the two could never come back to earth to drink, that is why Ursa Major and Ursa Minor never come below the horizon. |
